A BRIEF HISTORY AND HELPFUL CONTACT INFORMATION FOR CHASE, BRITISH COLUMBIA
The Village of Chase is located on the Trans Canada Highway, approximately 56 km east of Kamloops.
Chase is situated on the shore of Little Schuswap Lake, in the earner region of the South Thompson
River Valley.
The population of Chase numbers approximately 2,600.
HISTORY
Whitfield Chase, from New York arrived in the area during the Gold Rush in 1858. In 1865, Chase and
his wife became the first settlers to build a farm and raise a family in the area. The community was
named Chase in his honour. During 1907, a logging company purchased the land from Marcus Chase,
Whitfield’s’ eldest son. The Adams River Lumber Company operated from 1908 to 1925.
ATTRACTIONS
Annual Events – Chase is host to numerous annual festivities including Canada Day Celebrations and the
Squilax Pow Wow in July and the Corn Festival in August.
Chase Museum – The museum is home to artifacts and exhibits that trace the history of Chase and the
surrounding area.
